Coastal Walks Around Salcombe

Salcombe is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking walking routes in the South West. From clifftop adventures to peaceful woodland trails. If you are looking for a gentle stroll with sea views or a half day hike along the South West Coast Path, there is a walk for every pace and every season.

Here are a few of our favourite local walks, all within easy reach of Seagrass:

Bolt Head / Stare hole Bay

One of the most iconic walks in the area, this circular route takes you from South Sands up to Bolt Head, with sweeping views over the estuary and out to sea. Stop at Stare hole Bay for a peaceful moment, it is a definite team favourite and one not to be missed.

Tor Woods

Just behind South Sands, Tor Woods offers a peaceful shaded walk ideal for hot summer days or quiet morning strolls. This gentle woodland trail winds through leafy paths with glimpses of the sea peeking through the trees and a soundtrack of birdsong overhead. This National Trust route is a perfect escape for those seeking calm in nature.

Snapes Point

This gentle, mostly flat trail winds through open countryside and delivers panoramic views across the Salcombe estuary which is perfect for photography, boat spotting and peaceful reflection.It is a favourite among locals, especially for those wanting to look back at Salcombe from a unique vantage point. On the far side of the headland, you will spot boats moored in hidden creeks and coves that are not visible from town.

East Portlemouth

Take the ferry from Salcombe to East Portlemouth and explore the quieter side of the estuary. Walk along the coast to Mill Bay and Gara Rock, or just enjoy the peaceful beaches and hidden coves.

Bolt Tail – Hope Cove

A stunning section of the South West Coast Path, this walk offers dramatic sea views, wildflowers and a rewarding finish in the charming village of Hope Cove. Ideal for a half-day adventure.
