Our History
Once known as South Sands Hotel and Restaurant, Seagrass has evolved into a destination for coastal dining in Salcombe. Inspired by our natural underwater meadows, we honour the landscape through our food, atmosphere and commitment to sustainability.
South Sands
In 2008, we began a new chapter breathing life back into the much-loved South Sands Hotel, a cherished seaside escape from the 1950s. With its unrivalled beachfront setting and timeless charm, we set out to rebuild and reimagine the space for a new generation.
After two years of careful restoration and thoughtful design, the hotel reopened in 2010 with 22 beautifully appointed rooms. Welcoming uninterrupted views across the Salcombe estuary.
Introducing Seagrass Salcombe
Now celebrating 15 years of South Sands, we are excited to introduce Seagrass. The new identity for our new sea view restaurant, right on the beach in Salcombe, Devon.
Our journey has always been shaped by the sea, the sand and the community around us. As our business has evolved, so has our vision and we felt it was time for our restaurant to have a name and story of its own.
Seagrass reflects our unique location on the beach, our commitment to seasonally and locally sourced ingredients and the relaxed yet professional, welcoming atmosphere we strive to offer and have become known for.
We have been working hard behind the scenes to create a brand that honours our past while embracing the future. Whether you have dined with us before or are discovering us for the first time we invite you to experience Seagrass.
